Autumn in Granada

Autumn in Granada starts with a religious festivity: the parade (procession) of the Virgen de las Angustias, patron virgin of the city. On the last Sunday in September, the city welcomes thousands of devotees coming from all the province of Granada.

The religious festivity comes along the first tasting of the season products. Many stands offer these delicatessen: acerolas, jujube fruits, quinces, kakhis,… and the emblem of the city: the POMEGRANATE (“granada” in Spanish), which becomes an essential ingredient in the local cuisine during these days making colourful dishes such as the “migas” with pomegranate.

From October onwards, a long-lived tradition comes back as one can find every corner in the city centre offers stands for buying roasted chestnuts. Crackling fire and sparks give a special flavour to the dark Autumn afternoons, full of noisy passer-by.

The Mirador de San Nicolás viewpoint, considered by many as the best place to watch the sunset, becomes well worth of its fame in these days. The warmth of the sun rays on the Alhambra and Albaicín is one of the most memorable experiences.

New inhabitants come to the city, the University students who come back to the city for the new school year, giving the city a very lively atmosphere.

But the most special feature in Granada in Autumn is its festivals… during these days the most prestigious festivals take plaece in granada: the Jazz Festival, the Flamenco Autumn Festival, the Magic Festival “Hocus Poccus”.
