Erected by the Catholic Monarchs and built by Enrique Egas in 1504 in order to install there their tombs. From the outside we can observe the Plateresque-style façade of the chapel being the other walls joined to the Cathedral, Sagrario and Lonja. The Royal Chapel houses valuable Flemish sculptures and paintings as well as the famous “Tríptico de la Pasión” (“Triptych of the Passion”) by Dierick Bouts. This work was part of the Catholic Queen’s collection and, due to its dimensions and qualities, is the most important pictorical work in Granada.

The temple to house the Catholic Monarchs’ tombs was built by Enrique Egas entre 1505 and 1521. Its layout conforms a Latin cross with apsidal head, choir and crypt. The transept is closed by a magnificent golden iron grille which separates the royal tombs from the other parts of the temple. Therefore, the feeling of being in a panteon as its foundation reason, gets magistrally reinforced.
