The Madraza Palace is found opposite the Capilla Real (Royal Chapel) next to the Catedral. It is also known as Old City Hall and University Yusuf I.
It was a Qu’ranic centre of teological and scientific studies and it still has its mirhab from the mosque classroom. By a Royal Chart (Carta Real) of September 20th 1500, the Catholic Monarchs organised the “Cabildo” (City Council), establishing it as its seat.
Emperor Charles V introduced a series of transformations in the inner organisation of the Cabildo during his stay in Granada.
